The UCSC Physical Plant is responsible for maintenance of all our water mains on campus. Starting Dec. 23 and continuing through Jan. 2, campus crews will be conducting the annual campus water main flushing program.
This program is a vital part of maintaining water quality standards that are mandated by the state of California. The health and welfare of all on campus is a part of the mission statement of the Physical Plant and hydrant flushing helps fulfill that mission. Water main flushing also assures availability of water at the appropriate pressures in emergencies.
The flushing requires a high flow of water for short periods of time and is done at key fire hydrant locations around campus.
Our crews do everything they can to minimize impact to the roads and landscape during these brief, high flow periods. Thank you for your patience and understanding while this process is occurring.
