Giving Tuesday to support student basic needs

Chancellor Cynthia Larive

The fall quarter is sprinting toward its finish, some desperately needed rain is on the horizon, and soon we will all have a short break from our work and studies, hopefully to spend time with family and friends.

I, for one, am especially grateful to be part of a campus community so dedicated to making a difference in the lives of students and in the world around us. Our collective efforts to change the world for the better continually inspire me.

I’m happy to highlight an initiative designed to strengthen our efforts to combat food insecurity and to further raise awareness of the issue. We are planning a special edition of Giving Tuesday, which is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It falls on Dec. 3 this year. This day has become an international day of charitable giving, and UCSC will route all the money we raise to our Slug Support program. Slug Support aids students who are in crisis or fast approaching one, often relating to their basic needs.

Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to make an impact on the student experience here at UC Santa Cruz. If you can, please help support food accessibility for all students.

Wishing you all a wonderful fall break!
