Upcoming Jewish holidays

To: UC Santa Cruz community

From: Garrett Naiman, Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students

Many members of our campus community will observe a series of Jewish holidays over the course of the coming month. Observation of these holidays may impact student availability to attend classes, work on-campus jobs, and participate in other university activities; this may be particularly relevant during Rosh Hashana, which takes place during the first full week of classes this year, and Yom Kippur, which is among the most widely observed Jewish holidays. We hope you will take this information into consideration and practice flexibility to support our students who observe these holidays.

Holidays

  • Rosh Hashana: Monday, Sept. 30, to Tuesday, Oct. 1
  • Yom Kippur: Wednesday, Oct. 9
  • Sukkot: Monday, Oct. 14, to Tuesday, Oct. 15
  • Simchat Torah: Monday, Oct. 21, to Tuesday, Oct. 22

Each holiday begins at sunset the previous night.
