The United Way is seeking volunteers to help with its annual Stuff the Bus campaign, which distributes new backpacks and school supplies to ensure students start school ready to learn with the tools they need to succeed.
UC Santa Cruz is co-sponsoring the campaign.
Last year, more than 3,000 Santa Cruz County students were experiencing homelessness and/or extreme hardships, and community members collected 2,200 new backpacks with supplies that were distributed to youth in time for the first day of school.
The “Stuff-a-thon” will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 3 at Kaiser Permanente Arena, 140 Front St., Santa Cruz. There are two shifts available, and volunteers can register online.
