Project improves stormwater drainage
Supported by a federal grant, new bioretention basins will promote rainwater infiltration into the soil and protect water quality.
UC Santa Cruz last month completed work on five new bioretention basins near the main entrance that will improve stormwater drainage.
Supported by a federal grant, the basins will promote rainwater infiltration into the soil and protect water quality.
The basins, between High Street and the Emergency Resource Center, use plants, soil, and rock to capture, filter, and infiltrate stormwater. The hillside is being re-seeded with native vegetation.
Nearly three-quarters of the $1.1 million project was covered by a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
