Karen Bassi to serve as acting dean of Humanities

To: UC Santa Cruz Community

From: Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, Marlene Tromp

I'm pleased to announce that Karen Bassi, literature professor, has agreed to serve as acting dean of the Humanities Division while Dean Tyler Stovall is on sabbatical. Karen's appointment began March 1 and will run through June 30, 2019, when Tyler is set to return.

Karen has a long history with the campus. She earned her bachelor's in classics from UC Santa Cruz in 1980, later earning her Ph.D. from Brown University. She returned to UCSC as a faculty member in 1989. In her tenure here, she has served as chair of the literature department, director of the classics program, and director of the Educational Abroad Program in the Netherlands.

I am deeply appreciative of her willingness to serve the division and the campus in this capacity.
