The UC Board of Regents will learn more about Student Housing West during its meeting next week, when the project will be on the agenda as a discussion item.
The project and an associated Long Range Development Plan (LRDP) amendment will be before the Committee on Finance and Capital Strategies on Jan. 16. The committee meets at 1 p.m. in Robertson Auditorium at UC San Francisco's Mission Bay Conference Center, 1675 Owens Street, San Francisco 94158.
The open sessions of Regents meetings are also streamed online. The Regents will not be considering approval of the project design or the LRDP amendment at this meeting. UC Santa Cruz intends to bring a design approval item before the Regents at the March 13-14, 2019 meeting.
Though UC Santa Cruz provides housing for 9,300 students—roughly half of its student body—there remains an urgent need for affordable campus housing, especially for upper-division students who otherwise would be living in the surrounding community. Student Housing West is the single largest housing project underway in Santa Cruz County.
As proposed, Student Housing West will create 3,072 new beds at two sites on the UC Santa Cruz main campus, one along Heller Drive, the other along Hagar Drive.
