The National Weather Services has issued a High Surf Advisory for Sunday and Monday through 9 p.m., December 16-17. These conditions can produce dangerous swells and large breaking waves from 25 to 40 feet, some locations exceeding 50 feet.
Impacts:
  • Significantly increased risk of rip currents and sneaker waves.
  • Large and dangerous breaking waves.
  • Increased risk of strong longshore current.
Recommendations if going to the beach:
  • Never turn your back to the ocean. Always keep your eyes on the ocean.
  • Stay away from and out of the water during swell events.
  • Stay further back from the water's edge and off rocks and jetties.
  • Obey beach closure signs.
  • If an area is wet, assume that another wave will reach that location again.
  • Do not attempt to rescue pets that have been swept into the sea, most pets will make it out of the water on their own.
