6:15 p.m.—Metro has resumed regular routes. The strike activities have concluded. This is the last update. 

4:53 p.m.—Strike activites are wrapping up. Both entrances continue to be open. Drive with caution.

3:54 p.m.—Strike activities continuing at the main entrance. Both entrances open. Drive safely. 

2:47 p.m.—OPERS will be closing at 6:30 p.m. today, due to insufficient staffing. 

1:14 p.m.—Both entrances remain open. Strike activities continue at main entrance. Drive carefully. 

12:26 p.m.—Traffic is moving freely on and off of campus as labor activities continue at the main entrance.  Drive carefully.

11:32 a.m.—Strikers and their supporters continue to picket at the main campus entrance, but traffic is flowing freely on and off of campus. Please drive carefully.

10:20 a.m.—The Student Health Center is open. 

10:06 a.m.—Both entrances remain clear and open. Strike activites continuing. Drive with caution. 

9:21 a.m.—Both Admissions Office locations, at Hahn Student Services and the Cook House, are open. 

9:06 a.m.—The Bowl at Porter is open, as is Iveta.

9:02 a.m.—Campus entrances remain open with labor activity primarily at main entrance. Bookstore now open.

8:28 a.m.—Cowell Basic Needs Cafe is open.

8:01 a.m.—The Library's Science & Engineering and McHenry buildings will be open normal hours today.

7:54 a.m.—The Express Store is open. Bookstore aims to open between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. depending on staffing levels. 

7:50 a.m.—The entrances to campus are open, and traffic is flowly smoothly. Drive carefully, as labor activity continues.

7:10 a.m.—The dining halls at Colleges Nine and Ten, Rachel Carson and Oakes colleges, and Cowell and Stevenson colleges are open and serving hot breakfast.

7:05 a.m.—Both the main and west entrances to campus are open. There is labor activity at the main entrance. Please drive with caution. 

6:30 a.m.—Both entrances to the main campus are open and clear. Strike activities expected to resume later today.

The Library's Science & Engineering and McHenry buildings will operate during normal hours today, Oct-25.


Enrollment-Transcripts

Because of strike activities, staff may be unable to get to the office, limiting enrollment support and transcript production. Students may be able to order official electronic transcripts (.pdf documents) during the closure. The office’s email account will be checked throughout the day during the strike.

The health center is open.


Transportation and Parking Services

Campus shuttles will not be running, though Disability Van Service is available by calling 831-459-2829 to request service. Santa Cruz Metro buses will not come onto campus during the strike. Metro will provide modified service, using bus stops on Bay Street near the main entrance or on High Street near Western Drive.

6:08 p.m.—Today's labor action has ended. Both campus entrances are open. Campus Metro service, which had been limited to stops at the base of campus, has now resumed regular operations. However, modified service will likely occur again Thursday.

5:18 p.m.—Campus entrances remain open. Picketing continues at the main entrance.

3:22 p.m.—Both campus entrances are open. Drive with caution, however, as labor activity continues at the main entrance.

2:08 p.m.—Both campus entrances are open and clear, though picketers remain at both areas. Drive with caution.

1:32 p.m.—Both entrances remain open and clear. Drive with caution. Strike activities underway at both entrances.

Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018


7 p.m.—Regular Metro service to campus has resumed. Updates will resume tomorrow morning  

5:15 p.m.—About 20 demonstrators remain at the main entrance to campus. Traffic is flowing freely. 

3:28 p.m.—A group of roughly 100 demonstrators is gathering at the main entrance to campus. Drive with caution.

2:46 p.m.—The demonstrators are walking toward Oakes College. Drive carefully and plan for possible traffic delays.

2:14 p.m.—The demonstration has now moved to the patio at Kerr Hall.

2:04 p.m.—A group of about 200 demonstrators is now leaving the Quarry Plaza area, and is heading toward McHenry Library.

1:33 p.m.—Cowell Basic Needs Cafe (at the site of the Cowell Coffee Shop) plans to be open until 8 p.m.

1:04 p.m.—A group of demonstrators is marching up Coolidge Drive toward Hagar Drive. Drive carefully and plan for possible traffic delays.

12:57 p.m.—Both entrances at the main campus are currently open. Demonstrators are at main entrance. Drive with caution. Classes, research, and university business can occur as planned.

12:19 p.m.—Campus entrances remain open. Drive with caution. 

11:28 a.m.—OPERS and the West Field House will close at noon.

10:54 a.m.—Demonstrations continue. Both entrances at the main campus remain open. Drive with caution. 

10:26 a.m.—Both entrances at the main campus remain open. Drive with caution. 

9:54 a.m.—The campus bookstore is open.

9:46 a.m.—Both entrances at the main campus are currently open. Demonstrators are at both entrances. Drive with caution. Classes, research, and university business can occur as planned.

9:27 a.m.—Global Village Cafe is open.

9:18 a.m.—Bowls Cafe at Porter is open. Cafe Iveta in Quarry Plaza is closed. Vivas at Merrill College is closed.

8:58 a.m.—Both entrances at the main campus are currently open. Demonstrators are at both entrances. Drive with caution. Classes, research, and university business can occur as planned.

8:09 a.m.—The Express Store is open.
