With support from a federal grant, UC Santa Cruz will improve stormwater drainage at the Emergency Response Center to promote infiltration into the soil and protect water quality.
The campus will create five new bioretention basins on the slope below the ERC that will use plants, soil, and rock to capture, filter, and infiltrate stormwater.
Nearly three-quarters of the $1.1 million project will be covered by a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Construction is expected to start in spring and conclude in the fall.
