2018-2019 UCSC Campus Transit and Metro Bus Service

To: UC Santa Cruz Community

From: Larry Pageler, Director of Transportation and Parking Services

As our UC Community gears up for the 2018-2019 academic year, we wanted to send everyone a quick note with some information regarding on-campus transit and Santa Cruz Metro Bus Services to-and-from UCSC.

While we will always encourage everyone on campus to take advantage of our numerous walking and bicycle trails (click here to see bike path locations on campus), we are pleased to continue on-campus shuttle service to our faculty, staff, students and other guests.  Beginning today, September 24, 2018, our Campus Transit and Bike Shuttle fall quarter service is underway.

UCSC Campus Transit is operating three on-campus routes: The Loop, Upper Campus and the Night Core.  This year, operating hours and frequencies have been modified for each of these routes, and the two Night Core routes have been consolidated into one. Please click here to view UCSC Campus Transit shuttle schedules for the fall quarter.  A print-at-home version of the schedule is available here and printed versions will be available on board shuttles within the next few weeks.  Bike Shuttle service remains unchanged;  please click here for additional information.

Santa Cruz Metro buses will be operating the same level of transit service to-and-from campus as last year. This includes the Route 22 bus operating weekdays between the Coastal Science Campus and the main campus along Western Drive. Three 60-foot articulated buses will also return to provide increased capacity during the regular school term. The schedule is online at SCMTD's website.

If you choose to drive your car to campus, consider sharing your ride. Zimride, a ride-matching program that is exclusive to the UCSC community, makes it easy to find others who want to carpool to campus. By carpooling, you can reduce your carbon footprint and save on expenses, including the cost of a parking permit.

If you have a temporary need for a vehicle, check out Zipcar, UCSC's car-sharing program. Those who are 18 years old and over can rent cars on an hourly or daily basis. Members have access to over 20 vehicles, both on and off campus.

We hope that these resources are useful to you during the upcoming quarter and beyond.  For more information, please visit the TAPS website.
