Today all entering frosh and transfer students will receive an email informing them of a new requirement to be completed upon registering for fall quarter. We Are Slugs! combines two online requirements AlcoholEdu for College Students and Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates (the latter previously called Haven) with a new program, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Students. All three are being offered through EVERFI, an online education company. Student can access the three programs through their MyUCSC portal. They will remain on each student’s “to do” list until they are completed. The deadline to do so is Oct. 2.
Our goals in requiring We Are Slugs! are to:
- Prepare students to successfully navigate campus in effective, healthy, and inclusive ways;
- Encourage students to join us in co-creating and co-sustaining a healthy campus climate;
- Engage students with information so they can make appropriate choices once here; and,
- Share resources about where to find additional support.
Students not completing all three programs by the deadline will have a single hold placed on their ability to register for winter classes starting Nov. 14. We are incentivizing completion in three ways:
- As we have done in the past, we will provide undergraduate advisers with a list of students who have yet to complete the programs in hopes they can encourage their completion.
- We will be offering, via lottery, two Amazon gift cards worth $100 each to students who have completed all three programs. The first winner will be drawn Sept. 14, the second Sept. 28.
- We also will send reminder emails to students who have yet to complete all three programs.
