Campus to host multi-agency training exercise on Wednesday, July 18

To: UC Santa Cruz Community

From: Public Affairs

UC Santa Cruz will host a multi-agency training exercise from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday (July 18) at Kresge College.

The training will focus on emergency response to bomb threats. There will be a simulated flash bomb at 9 a.m. that may be audible in the immediate area, but not elsewhere on campus. The goal is to allow members of different public safety agencies to train together by handling a simulated incident at UC Santa Cruz.

Please do not be alarmed by the public safety resources you will see on campus. This is a training exercise, not a real incident.

Due to the magnitude of the drill, and the amount of public safety resources participating, the majority of Kresge College will be restricted from public access.

Areas with restricted access on Wednesday will be:

  • Kresge Town Hall
  • Owl's Nest Cafe
  • R-9 Suites
  • Recreation Room second floor adjacent to the Triplets
  • Parking lots 142, 143, 145 (all day), and the West Remote Lot (morning only)

This exercise requires significant work prior to the drill. The company setting up the drill will be on site Monday and Tuesday preparing the site. Access will be restricted on Monday and Tuesday in the following areas for set up:

  • Kresge Town Hall
  • R-9 Suites
  • Recreation Room second floor
We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding.
