Late yesterday, we heard rumors that federal immigration officers were on campus to do immigration checks. This is not true.
While there have been additional law enforcement officers to help ensure public safety during this week’s labor action, there have been no federal immigration officers.UC Police policy does not allow our officers to contact, detain, question or arrest individuals based on suspected undocumented status, or to enter agreements to undertake joint efforts to make arrests for federal immigration law violations. Moreover, ICE has a policy that directs their agents to avoid taking enforcement actions at locations such as schools, including college and university campuses.
Nonetheless, we want to acknowledge the anxiety and stress that such rumors can cause for our students and our greater community. UC Santa Cruz remains committed to doing everything we can to support the health of our community, and we continue to offer a broad array of resources for support as we end the quarter.Resources
