Firefighters are working to extinguish a fire along Highway 1, near Western Drive. The campus is not threatened, though the smell of smoke is detectable on campus.
Santa Cruz police officers have closed northbound Highway 1 north of Western Drive until further notice, according to a Nixle alert.
