We know of roughly a dozen UC Santa Cruz students who have been affected, and we will accommodate any early move-in or other needs they may have. As the devastation grows, more students and their families may be impacted, so we will continue our outreach and support.
The UC Office of the President is coordinating outreach to hundreds of students in the impacted Texas area who are entering UC in the fall, while also assessing the needs of international students.
We urge any students impacted by Harvey or the monsoons in Southeast Asia to contact our Slug Support program, which was created to promote early intervention with students who may be under stress. The campus also offers counseling and psychological support through the CAPS program and through Student Health Services.
We realize the real work has just begun in the wake of these natural disasters, and that clean-up will take months, if not years. So our support will be ongoing.
There are ways our campus community can get involved and help, too. Here’s a list of organizations helping Texas residents in the aftermath of the unprecedented flooding in the Houston area. Internationally, UNICEF and Oxfam are among the organizations helping the displaced.
