Help for students impacted by catastrophic storms
We are reaching out to UC Santa Cruz graduate and undergraduate students who hail from coastal Texas and areas of Southeast Asia to offer our support and sympathy in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and massive flooding as a result of seasonal monsoons. Campus resources are available if students are at all struggling.
The UC Office of the President is coordinating outreach to hundreds of students in the impacted Texas area who are entering UC in the fall, while also assessing the needs of international students.
We urge any students impacted by Harvey or the monsoons in Southeast Asia to contact our Slug Support program, which was created to promote early intervention with students who may be under stress. The campus also offers counseling and psychological support through the CAPS program and through Student Health Services.
We realize the real work has just begun in the wake of these natural disasters, and that clean-up will take months, if not years. So our support will be ongoing.
There are ways our campus community can get involved and help, too. Here’s a list of organizations helping Texas residents in the aftermath of the unprecedented flooding in the Houston area. Internationally, UNICEF and Oxfam are among the organizations helping the displaced.
