The campus community is invited to a celebration of the life of Walter Goldfrank, professor emeritus of sociology and Latin American and Latino Studies.
The gathering will take place on Saturday, November 4, at 3 p.m. in the College Nine/College Ten Multipurpose Room on the UC Santa Cruz campus.
Goldfrank, who joined the faculty in 1968 and retired in 2009, died July 11 following a lengthy battle with bone cancer and then leukemia.
The Sociology Department announced his death earlier this summer, as did the Latin American and Latino Studies Department. An obituary prepared by the family is available online. The Global Studies Association honored Goldfrank with a panel discussion during its 2017 conference in Berkeley.
The Wally Goldfrank Student Award has been established to honor Goldfrank's legacy. The fund will provide support to undergraduates and graduate students in the Latin American and Latino Studies Department.
