I want to officially welcome to campus Katharyne Mitchell, who this week began her appointment as dean of the Social Sciences Division.
Katharyne comes to UC Santa Cruz from the University of Washington, where she was a professor of geography. She spent the past year on a Guggenheim Fellowship, which she used to explore the nature of sanctuary and the role of faith-based movements in migration policy and human-rights discourse in Europe.
I announced Katharyne’s appointment earlier this summer. Social sciences research confronts some of the biggest questions of our time, and I know Katharyne’s commitment to excellence in research and social justice will serve our campus well.
Please join me welcoming Dean Katharyne Mitchell to campus.
