Judit Moschkovich, professor of education and graduate director of the Education Department, was invited by the Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education of the National Academy of Sciences to serve as a member of the committee "Supporting English Learners in STEM Subjects."
The committee will spend two years examining three aspects of research on how to support English learners in pre-K through 12th grade: learning, teaching, and assessment in STEM subjects, including the role of language in learning STEM; successful programs or interventions both within the United States and abroad; and the needs of both pre-service and in-service STEM teachers with respect to English learners.
The work will result in a National Research Council consensus volume to be published in 2019.
