Campus Status

4:52 p.m. — Both entrances are open. Traffic is heavy. Use caution. Campus transit services have returned to normal, including loop shuttle, upper campus shuttle, and the east and west night core shuttle. Metro service is being restored as of 5 p.m. All Metro-UCSC routes should proceed onto and through campus. 

The dining hall at Colleges Nine and Ten will try to stay open until 8 p.m. All other dining locations are closed. Regular service will resume tomorrow morning, with all five dining halls opening at 6:30 a.m. with continental breakfast, and hot breakfast items available at 7 a.m.

No further updates are expected. 


4:46 p.m. — The west entrance is now clear and open. The main entrance is still blocked. Please avoid Bay and High streets.

4:28 p.m. — OPERS will close at 6 p.m. and reopen for regular hours tomorrow morning. 

4:25 p.m. — Protestors are walking down Empire Grade Road toward the main entrance. Avoid driving in area. The main entrance remains blocked. 

3:46 p.m: Due to the inability of staff to access campus, Colleges Nines and Ten Dining Hall is the only open dining location at this time. The dining hall will be open until at least 6 p.m. Check back for updates. 

3:19 p.m. — Campus transit services are suspended while the roads are blocked. 

3 p.m. — Dining at Colleges Nine and Ten will continue until at least 4 p.m.

2 p.m. — Dining at Rachel Carson College/Oakes College will be open until 3 p.m. Dining at Colleges Nine and Ten will be open until at least 4 p.m. OPERS will be open until at least 6 p.m.

1:30 p.m. — The Science & Engineering and McHenry libraries will not be able to open because library staff remain unable to get on campus. Science & Engineering and McHenry will reopen Tuesday morning for normal building hours.

12:35 p.m. — Students are encouraged to eat at Rachel Carson College/Oakes College Dining Hall. Long lines at Colleges Nine and Ten Dining Hall. Both entrances continue to be blocked. People are encouraged to avoid campus for now. 

12 p.m. — The bookstore and express store are closed. The Student Health Center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

11:30 a.m. — Campus entrances continue to be blocked. Please avoid coming to campus. Traffic is being diverted. Campus service updates are available below.

10:20 a.m. — OPERS will be open until at least 3 p.m. today. The West Field house will not be open today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

10:15 a.m. — Limited lunch is now available at Rachel Carson College/Oakes College dining hall. 

9:48 a.m. — Limited lunch options will be available beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the dining hall at Rachel Carson College and Oakes College.

9:30 a.m. — OPERS will be open until at least 12:15 p.m. today. Both campus entrances are still blocked. 

9 a.m. — Campus transit is operating the upper campus route between the East and West Remote Lots. Other transit services are suspended while the roads are blocked, including the loop shuttles and the bike shuttle. The west entrance and main entrance are still blocked. Traffic is heavily congested on Empire Grade Road.

8:30 a.m. — Protestors have moved from the intersection of Hagar and Coolidge drives to the intersection at Bay and High streets. The main entrance and west entrance are still blocked. The Hagar/Coolidge intersection is clear.

8 a.m. — Entrances are still blocked. Metro buses will not be entering or traveling through campus. They will stop to load and unload off campus near the Bay/High intersection. Please avoid coming to the main campus right now.

7:31 a.m. — Heavy traffic on Empire Grade Road. Expect delays. People are asked to avoid coming to the main campus of UC Santa Cruz right now. Both entrances are still blocked due to a protest.

6:54 a.m. — Access to UC Santa Cruz main campus currently blocked. Traffic diverted.

6 a.m.—Both entrances are blocked. Expect traffic delays. Check back for more.

Campus Services

Admissions

Campus tours will not be conducted today due to strike activities. The Office of Admissions regrets this inconvenience, especially to anyone that had a confirmed reservation for a campus tour. Please contact the Office of Admissions to reschedule. 

Campus visitors are encouraged to access the UC Santa Cruz virtual tour.

Bookstore

The bookstore and express store are closed for the time being.


Dining Services

The dining hall at Colleges Nine and Ten will try to stay open until 8 p.m. All other dining locations are closed. Regular service will resume tomorrow morning, with all five dining halls opening at 6:30 a.m. with continental breakfast, and hot breakfast items available at 7 a.m.

Vivas and Iveta Cafe will be closed all day today. As they are not managed by UCSC Dining, please contact them directly with questions. Vivas: 831-459-3299; Iveta Cafe: 831-459-3066.


Libraries

The Science & Engineering and McHenry libraries will not be able to open because library staff remain unable to get on campus. Science & Engineering and McHenry will reopen Tuesday morning for normal building hours.


Enrollment-Transcripts

Due to strike activities, staff may be unable to get to the office, limiting enrollment support and transcript production. The office’s email account will be checked throughout the day on May 1.

Student Health Center

The Student Health Center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.


Transportation and Parking Services

Campus transit services have resumed.

Metro service is resuming as of 5 p.m.

Disability van riders should contact TAPS at 831-459-2829 if they are changing or canceling their service request for the day.
