The Dean of Students Office in collaboration with the Global Food Initiative and UCSC Dining is set to launch Swipes for Slugs this week. The meal drive begins today, March 6, 2017 through March 24, 2017.
Swipes for Slugs is derived from the national Swipe Out Hunger non-profit organization that aims to address local hunger through unused meal swipes on students’ meal plans.
Mission Statement - Swipes for Slugs aspires to provide a system to aid UCSC students that may lack food security and access by allowing their fellow peers with meal plans to donate meal swipes for access to dining halls.
Donations act as a safety net for students with food insecurity, so academics and well-being can be addressed first. Students will be able to receive donated meal swipes through Slug Support. Students experiencing food insecurity can self-refer themselves and/or someone in the campus community.
If you would like to make a monetary donation or would like more information about the Dean of Students, please feel free to visit here.
Please share the information with fellow slugs and the greater community!
Thank you for your time and support.
