It is my pleasure to announce that Richard Hughey, UC Santa Cruz vice provost and dean of undergraduate education, has agreed to also serve as our interim vice provost for global engagement, effective Jan. 1.
The Division of Global Engagement is responsible for programs and issues related to our international students, education abroad programs, international scholars and exchange visitors, and international initiatives involving research, teaching and service collaborations. Richard oversees our campus efforts to increase international student enrollment and oversaw Global Engagement prior its spinoff. He is thus well-positioned to further raise the campus presence abroad during this interim period.
He will work in collaboration with the Academic Senate, divisions, and departments to prioritize international strategic goals that include: executing programs that boost the success of international undergraduate and graduate students; expanding programs for visiting international students and scholars; growing the portfolio of faculty-led study and research abroad; facilitating worldwide research partnerships; and raising the campus's international presence.
