Storm impacts on campus, community

To: UC Santa Cruz Community

From: Public Affairs

The current storm system has led to flooding and a series of landslides throughout Santa Cruz County.

Additionally, PG&E power has been interrupted at the Coastal Science Campus, which has been on generator-supplied backup power since about 8:40 a.m. There currently is no estimate as to when full PG&E power will be restored.

Many roads leading into and out of the City of Santa Cruz area are closed due to the storm. Currently, Highway 1 and Highway 129 are open.

Due to the anticipated continued rainfall in our area, the UCSC community is advised to use extreme caution when traveling on the roadways. Motorists should not cross standing water when the depth cannot be ascertained. Be on the lookout for stalled vehicles and areas prone to flooding. Plan additional time for travel to all destinations in and around Santa Cruz County.
