To: UCSC Community

From: Nader Oweis, Chief of Police, UC Santa Cruz

The UC Santa Cruz Police presents Community Response to Workplace Violence and Active Shooter Incidents. This three-hour training seminar focuses on teaching community members the fundamentals of avoiding and removing oneself from a violent workplace encounter, denying access or locking out a potential armed suspect, and defending oneself and others from violence until law enforcement and other first responders arrive.
  • Case studies, training videos, and a presentation on workplace violence will be provided.
  • Practical skills and knowledge to prepare attendees for dealing with workplace violence and active shooter scenarios will be presented.
  • Attendees may participate in a “hands-on” drill at the end of the training session that will incorporate the tactics learned during the seminar.
The training seminar will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Oct. 20 at the Colleges Nine and Ten Multipurpose Room. If you are interested in attending the training, please register by:
