Mary Joan Rodriguez, who worked in the registrar’s office at Oakes College for 19 years, died Feb. 26. She was 86.
She was a third-generation Santa Cruz native and graduated from Holy Cross Elementary and High School. She received her associate’s degree from Hartnell College.
Mary Joan loved helping students navigate the road map of the various aspects of their education and was proud of and enjoyed connecting with “her babies” at subsequent reunions.
A ceremony to honor her life will be held Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St, Santa Cruz, beginning at 3 p.m. Remembrances in her name can be made to the Catholic Community of San Agustin church in Scotts Valley, or to the UCSC Silver Slugs Retirees Association for student scholarships. Checks may be made payable to the UCSC Foundation, for the Bruce Lane Memorial Scholarship Fund.
A longer obituary was published March 6 in the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
