Leadership change in the Arts Division

To: UC Santa Cruz Community

From: Campus Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor Alison Galloway

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Bill Ladusaw, professor of linguistics, as interim dean of the Arts Division. The appointment is effective January 9, 2016 through December 31, 2016.

Professor Ladusaw succeeds David Yager, who, as previously announced, has accepted a position as president and CEO of the University of the Arts.

A professor of linguistics who joined the faculty in 1984, Bill has also held a number of leadership positions on campus. Most recently, he served nearly five years as dean of the Humanities Division, stepping down this past spring. He earlier served as vice provost and dean of undergraduate education from 2004-2010, chair of the Linguistics Department from 1997-99, and provost of Cowell College from 1997-2003.

The campus is preparing to launch a national search for this leadership position. I appreciate Bill's willingness to serve on an interim basis and am confident he will do an excellent job leading the division through this transition. Please join me in welcoming him to this important new role.
