City replacing water main valve

To: UCSC Community

From: Henry Salameh, director of Physical Plant

The City of Santa Cruz Water Department is planning to replace a water main valve, a major project that will begin on Tuesday, September 22.
The work is estimated to take 16 hours. During this time we will be relying on water held in storage tanks to meet demand.
We ask the campus population to be especially diligent with water use during this city project. Campus operations will minimize our irrigation to conserve water while city crews are replacing the valve.
We don’t expect to notice any campus impacts. While it is expected that the shutdown will last only the estimated time, or less, it could go longer if something unexpected occurs. I will provide an update if there are unexpected delays in the project.
I appreciate your patience and help in making this a successful operation for the city.
