Possible physicians strike April 9-13

To: UCSC Community

From: Lori Castro, Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor Staff Human Resources

The Union of American Physicians and Dentists, which represents doctors and dentists at the student health centers across the University of California, has announced its intention to hold a strike from 7 a.m. April 9 through 7 a.m. April 13.
The university anticipates a small number of union representatives to engage in a peaceful picket near the UC Santa Cruz Student Health Center, potentially slowing pedestrian or vehicle traffic in the crosswalks closest to the building. No other concerted activities, including picketing near the main entrance, are expected at this time.
The Student Health Center will remain open during the strike, and we are making preparations to minimize disruption to patient care. Physician managers, nurses and other medically trained professionals will be ready to handle any urgent care appointments. Routine, non-urgent care appointments will be rescheduled.
As always, it is important that students, staff, and faculty monitor the UC Santa Cruz home page for updates. Additionally, as information warrants, the Public Affairs Office will:
  • Record information on the campus's communications hotline, 459-INFO (831-459-4636).
  • Relay information on a regular basis to KZSC Radio (88.1 FM) for broadcast.
  • Share information via Twitter (twitter.com/ucsc).
