In Memoriam: Raul Altamirano

I write with great sadness about the death of Raul Altamirano, assistant to the registrar and business manager for the Office of the Registrar. Raul died December 23, at home. He was 47.

Long a member of the campus community, Raul graduated from UCSC in 1990 as an Oakes College student with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Raul started his career in the Office of the Registrar as a student employee, and joined the campus as an Office of the Registrar staff member in 1990.

Through his various roles in the Office of the Registrar, Raul worked with many across campus. He will be remembered for his dedication and commitment to UCSC as well as his devotion to his family.

Raul, native and lifelong resident of Salinas, is survived by his mother, Margarita Altamirano; sister, Patricia Altamirano; and brothers: Javier Altamirano, Luis Altamirano, and Jesus Altamirano. The Visitation was held on Friday, December 26, 2014, at Healey Mortuary and the Funeral Mass was at Cristo Rey Catholic Church on Saturday, December 27.
