How to stay informed

When protest activities on the UC Santa Cruz campus affect traffic or university operations, information updates and known impacts will be posted here. In addition to updating this page, if necessary the Public Affairs Office will also:

  • Record information on the campus's communications hotline, 459-INFO (831-459-4636).
  • Relay information on a regular basis to KZSC Radio (88.1 FM) for broadcast.
  • Share information via the campus's Twitter and Facebook accounts.

UC Santa Cruz update–Quarry Plaza blocked

Tuesday, December 9
3:35 pm:
Quarry Plaza and services are open again. Rally is concluding.

12 pm: Students are holding an action to keep activity out of Quarry Plaza in honor of Michael Brown. Services are not available until after 5 pm when the activity is scheduled to end.  Until then the area is not accessible. People are being allowed to leave the Quarry Plaza area but are being prevented from entering.

Monday, December 8
4 pm:
March and protest have ended. 

2:30 pm A protest march over possible fee increases has coalesced in and around Kerr Hall. No other campus operations or travel are affected.

2:10 pm: March has reached Kerr Hall.

1:45 pm: Marchers are on Steinhardt Way, heading toward McHenry Library.

1:30 pm: A march has begun across campus after a rally at Quarry Plaza. Marchers are heading up Hagar from Quarry Plaza. Motorists may encounter marchers on campus roads and are advised to drive with caution.

12:45 pm: Students are gathering for a rally at Quarry Plaza.
