Noting UC Santa Cruz's first-year retention rate of 91 percent and 74 percent graduation rate, a college comparison website has named the campus first in the nation among the top 50 colleges for Hispanic/Latino students.
The site, Bestcolleges.com, highlighted the Chicano Latino Resource Center, known as El Centro, for its programs and resources that support and bolster the on-campus Hispanic community, including academic support, scholarships and financial guidance, and social events.
UC Santa Cruz is a Hispanic Serving Institution member of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, meaning its enrollment of Hispanic/Latinos is more than 25 percent. In recent years, Hispanic/Latino enrollment has been about 30 percent.
