UC Santa Cruz doctoral student Hanyu Wang is researching how to convert poop to power.
Wang's effort to revolutionize the production of hydrogen fuel using only sewage and sunlight was featured in a recent cover story in the weekly Santa Cruz Good Times' special environmental issue.
According to Hanae Armitage's article, Wang has "successfully engineered a device that converts, literally, what we flush down the toilet into a zero-emission hydrogen fuel that could power a rocket ship." But here's the best part, the article says, the hydrogen-based fuel comes from purely natural resources—sunlight and wastewater.
The article was also published in the North Bay Bohemian.
