Formal Review: Proposed Renewal of the Employee-initiated Reduction In Time (ERIT) Program

To: UCSC Staff

From: Lori Castro, Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor, Staff Human Resources; Pamela Peterson, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Academic Personnel

The University is proposing to renew the Employee-initiated Reduction In Time (ERIT) Program, which is an optional tool that locations and organizational units may choose to implement as a cost saving resource.

The program allows eligible career staff, except Senior Management Group members, to voluntarily reduce their current appointment percentage and corresponding pay, which will allow the University to achieve temporary salary savings.  In exchange employees receive certain specific advantages, such as accrual of vacation and sick leave at the employees’ pre-ERIT rates.

Therefore, the University has proposed that the program be renewed for a three-year period, effective July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2017.

The revised program reflecting the proposed three-year renewal is posted at: http://ucop.edu/human-resources/_files/erit-draft.pdf

The policy’s scope applies to all non-represented staff employees. Non-represented staff employees who wish to provide comments on the proposed policy should direct their comments to Lori Castro at lhcastro@ucsc.edu by June 6, 2014. Participation for exclusively represented employees is subject to collective bargaining.
