We regret to inform you that Virginia "Ginny" Fitzmaurice, a long-time employee at UC Santa Cruz, died February 8 following a prolonged illness.
Ginny, who began working at UCSC in the 1980s in residential programs, retired in 2005 after a long association with Kresge and Porter College. She was also a graduate of Porter in 1980.
Ginny was a strong and fearless advocate for our students. Her dedication and compassion mixed in with a wry sense of humor made her a safe place for students to come for support. She will be deeply missed.
Her life will be celebrated by a gathering at the home of Chris Krohn and Rachel O'Malley, 123 Green Street in Santa Cruz, on Saturday, April 19, from 3 to 5 p.m.
