Gabriela F. Arredondo, associate professor of Latin American and Latino studies at UC Santa Cruz, has been appointed to the Organization of American Historians (OAH) Distinguished Lectureship Program for the 2014-2017 term.
Founded in 1981, the lectureship program is a speakers bureau dedicated to American history. OAH presidents-elect make the appointments. Each speaker agrees to present one lecture on behalf of the organization each academic year and to donate his or her lecture fee to the organization. The Organization of American Historians was founded in 1907 and is the largest association devoted the study and teaching of American history.
From the appointment letter: "Since 1981, OAH presidents have appointed their most illustrious and dynamic colleagues to our program, making it one of the longest running and most successful efforts of its kind among scholarly associations. It has proven to be an ideal way to reach a broader audience while raising money for the organization's initiatives on behalf of historians."
OAH Distinguished Lecturers speak around the country, visiting college campuses and addressing undergraduate and graduate student conferences, and also leading teacher seminars and engaging general audiences at public events sponsored by historical societies, museums, libraries, and humanities councils.
