In memoriam: David Hayden

To: UCSC Community

From: Greg Gaither, Director of Applications and Project Management, ITS

With sadness I write to share the news that David Hayden, a longtime ITS employee, has passed away.

David joined the campus in 1998 as an application programmer in the telecom group. Over the years David played a key role in many critical initiatives, including the implementation of telecom billing and accounting systems and the CruzAlert emergency communication system. His coworkers appreciated his hard work, positive contributions and fun and easy going nature.

David was a devoted animal and human rights advocate and loved the natural world. He had a great sense of humor and was known for his personal and professional integrity. He loved Warriors basketball and was an avid roller derby fan, a sport he liked to share with his friends and colleagues.

He will be missed by all of us who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. Details regarding a memorial service will be shared as they become available.

A campus memorial for David will be held on February 13th at Natural Bridges State Beach at 12:30PM. A community memorial has been scheduled for February 22nd. Details for the community event will be available at Remembering David Hayden.
