Strike activity on campus ends; both campus entrances reopen

If strike activities occur on the UC Santa Cruz campus, information about any impacts that result will be posted on this page. In addition to updating this page as information warrants, the Public Affairs Office will be:

  • Recording information on the campus's communications hotline, 459-INFO (831-459-4636).
  • Relaying information on a regular basis to KZSC Radio (88.1 FM) for broadcast.
  • Sharing information via Twitter (twitter.com/ucsc).

Campus Status — Wednesday, November 20:

6 pm:  People participating in strike activities have left both entrances to campus, and both gates are now open to vehicular traffic. Metro bus service to and from the campus has also resumed. Thank you for your patience.

5:30 pm:  Strike activities continue at the main entrance to campus. But people participating in strike activities have left the West Entrance area, and that gate is now open to vehicular traffic.

4 pm:  The Korean music and dance concert, originally scheduled for this evening, has been rescheduled due to the strike. It will now take place in the Music Recital Hall at 4 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, November 21).

3 pm:  Strike activities continue at both entrances to campus. The campus situation is unchanged since the noon posting. McHenry Library plans to close at 5 p.m. today.

12 noon:  Strike activities continue at both entrances to campus, and a rally is taking place at the main entrance. Members of the campus community who live off campus are advised to not drive or come to campus. Because of a shortage of staff, many offices or buildings remain closed. For people already on campus, one campus library, McHenry, is open. The Student Health Center is also open with limited staffing.

Santa Cruz Metro buses are not expected to be driving onto the campus and will be unloading passengers at stops near the entrances. At this time, the campus is not running campus shuttle buses.
