Dining Services card payment processing error

To: UCSC Community

From: Bill Prime, Acting Director, Dining Services

Due to an error in Dining Services card payment system, charges for credit and debit card purchases at certain campus dining locations in October were not processed until early November. If you made a purchase at a campus dining hall, Perk Coffee Bar, Banana Joe’s, Oakes Café, Owl’s Nest, or Terra Fresca (University Center) in October, the charge would show on your card statement during the period of November 6-10.

We are very sorry for any confusion or inconvenience this has caused and ask for your patience and understanding as we work to reconcile the situation with those of you who have been adversely affected by the delayed transactions. Rest assured we’re taking all possible steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

We also want to be clear that this is not a security issue. Dining follows stringent Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance rules to ensure that each transaction is properly encrypted and secure. As such we do not store any personal identifying information for credit card transactions and therefore we were unable to contact the customers regarding the delay.

To show our appreciation to our loyal customers, we invite you to visit the University Center Coffee Bar during the week of November 18-22 to enjoy a complementary brewed coffee.
