Louis Facker, a longtime UCSC employee, died on October 11 at his Scotts Valley home. He was 87.
Hired as an engineer by founding UCSC chancellor Dean McHenry, "Lou" eventually became the head of UCSC Facilities. In recognition of his many contributions to the campus, the UC Board of Regents approved the naming of the central heating plant the "F. Louis Fackler Cogeneration Plant" upon his retirement.
Fackler's oral history of his time at UCSC is included in the University Library.
