Community Crime Bulletin: Arson

On Wednesday, October 9, at 2:40pm, UC Santa Cruz Police and Fire responded to a small fire located in the ravine below Hahn Student Services Building, north of the Village. Due to the location and initial description of the fire, additional fire support from the City of Santa Cruz Fire Department, Scott's Valley Fire Department, and Cal Fire responded.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the fire was intentionally set. 

In addition to this arson fire, there have been other recent suspicious fires on the UC Santa Cruz campus.  On Sunday, October 6, at 3am (Case # 13-793), UC Fire responded to a wildland fire on Meyer Drive at Heller Drive, near College 8; and, on August 26, at 2:30pm (Case # 13 - 697), UC Fire responded to a multi-acre brush fire across the West Entrance on Empire Grade.  Cal Fire Arson investigators are assisting the UC Santa Cruz Police Department with these investigations.

Anyone with information regarding any of these incidents is encouraged to contact the UC Santa Cruz Police Department immediately at 831-459-2231.

Safety Tips:
 
Report any suspicious behavior or persons to the UC Santa Cruz Police Department immediately by calling 9-1-1.
Report any smoke or fires immediately by calling 9-1-1. Don’t assume someone else will call it in.
