As the co-chairs of the 50th Anniversary Campus Coordinating Committee, we write to encourage you to attend a second Brown Bag lunch on Wednesday November 6 from noon to 1:00 pm at the Porter Hitchcock Lounge. The purpose of the Brown Bag is to gather and discuss ideas across campus for events or projects to celebrate the upcoming 50th Anniversary of the campus. Planning now for what seems like a far-off event is critical: by the end of this academic year, we will be formalizing the 50th anniversary schedule and preparing to promote the anniversary.
We were thrilled with the attendance and high spirits at the Summer Brown Bag. Our thanks to those individuals, programs, and departments who have contacted us with their ideas for organizing 50th events and activities. We hope for many more inspiring events to be submitted via the 50th anniversary website (50years.ucsc.edu). The website is already serving as a useful tool to organize and coordinate initiatives on campus.
The time is now to solidify your events and celebrations. We’ll use this Fall Brown Bag to address questions and focus on three goals:
- Mobilize the campus to think of celebrations that not only highlight UCSC’s past achievements but also look to the past, especially its unfinished business, to project our future;
- Explain the logistics and framework of planning activities; and
- Preview new features on the UCSC 50th Anniversary website and urge you to submit your event ideas as soon as possible.
We hope a representative from your unit or division will attend to share information about what you may already be planning during the January 2015 through June 2016 celebration period. Looking forward to seeing you on November 6.
