Preview Day 2013 -- Saturday, October 19

To: UCSC Community

From: Michael McCawley, Director of Admissions

As many of you are aware, Preview Day is a specially-designed opportunity for prospective students (frosh and transfers) and their families. The day is an important recruitment activity which connects prospective students with UCSC faculty, staff, and students. A few of our key messages this year will focus on access to our world renowned faculty, our high impact interdisciplinary research aimed at solving the world’s most challenging problems, our distinctive residential colleges, and of course, showcase our incredible learning environment. This year’s program will be held on Saturday, October 19.

Additional Information

  • Registration will continue to be required for all participants. Please direct interested individuals to http://admissions.ucsc.edu/pday to register for the event.
  • There will be three sessions at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, and 2:00 p.m. followed by a campus walking tour. Each session covers the same key topics surrounding undergraduate education, campus and student life, and admissions requirements and selection.
  • New this year, we are also hosting a “Meet-and-Greet” for Santa Cruz County families and counselors. This will be an opportunity for families to hear about UCSC’s outreach efforts in the local area. The session will take place at 9:00 a.m. in Classroom Unit II. No registration is required

We expect to serve approximately 1,500 visitors that day, including students early in the college exploration process, high school seniors applying to college, family members, and transfer students. The overview sessions will be held in the Classroom Unit Building.

Departments and campus units are encouraged to provide materials to be shared with guests during the event. If your unit is interested in sharing publications, please send materials for approximately 500 guests to the Office of Admissions, by Monday, October 14 (Mailstop: Cook House).

If at all possible, we would encourage you to open your offices on October 19 for prospective students and families who would like to visit and ask questions. If you plan on opening your offices, please contact Assistant Director Beatrice Atkinson-Myers at beatrice@ucsc.edu, ext. 9-2352, and let her know what hours you would be open.

I appreciate whatever participation you are able to provide for this year’s Preview Day. On behalf of the hundreds of prospective students and their families who will attend that day, I thank you.
