On September 25, 2013, at 9:55 p.m. a female student reported to the UC Santa Cruz Police Department that an unknown white male adult grabbed her while she was walking near the Merrill College writing center at approximately 8:45 p.m. The victim reported that she was able to fight off the suspect and return to her dorm where she later called the police.  The victim suffered minor injuries that did not require medical attention.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s with a large build, clean shaven with dark hair that partially covered his eyes, dark clothes and possibly suffered an unknown facial injury during the incident. He fled the area in an unknown direction. Possible charges include Attempted Kidnapping (664/261 PC) / False Imprisonment (236 PC).

A CruzAlert was sent out via text message to the community asking them to be on the lookout and to report individuals matching the description by calling 911 immediately.

Police officers and Housing Community Safety Officers (CSO's) are conducting extra patrols in the housing areas.

•    Immediately report the crime to the police. Try to provide as much information as accurately possible. Your actions can help prevent others from becoming victims.
•    Stay in well-lit areas as much as possible.
•    Trust your instincts. If something or someone makes you uneasy, avoid the person or leave.
•    Save any evidence. Do not remove any evidence until officers are able to respond and investigate.
