Zero Waste Move Out Programs

As the end of the school year approaches, it is time to start thinking about moving out of your residence.   Will you have bulky or other household items you won’t be taking with you?  Use this opportunity to donate AND help save the environment.

For students living on campus, there will be donation bins at Zero Waste Move Out stations from June 7 -14 at the colleges.  Check out http://housing.ucsc.edu/move-out/ for a great move out resource guide and ways to volunteer at the stations. Your Residential Life Office staff will also have details like bin locations and what can be donated.

For students living off campus, UCSC and the City of Santa Cruz have created a free “Move Out” program. The first 100 students who schedule a pick-up during June at www.cityofsantacruz.com/UCSCmoveout will receive a certificate for a large pizza from Woodstock’s!

Please don’t put your items out on the curb without scheduling a pickup. While it may seem like a good idea to place your items out on the curb with a “free” sign, many times your items end up in streams and other waterways, polluting wildlife habitats.

Thank you for your help in keeping Santa Cruz clean and green!
