Memorial Service for Larry Maxcy

A “Celebration of Life” will be held for Larry Maxcy, former Assistant Dean of Natural Sciences (1969-1991), at the UCSC Arboretum on Tuesday, May 28, at 11:30 a.m. Maxcy died on December 22, 2012, after a brief illness.

In the Natural Sciences Division, Maxcy used his expertise in public policy to help shape University policies. Before working at UCSC, he worked in Brazil with the National Institutes of Health. He was a Charter Member of the Arboretum Associates, served on the original Operating Committee, and served for three years as the first Treasurer of the Arboretum Associates. He also continued on as a volunteer and supporter. He wrote articles on gardening for publications such as Pacific Horticulture and published a book, “Old-fashioned Garden Wisdom.”

The family requests contributions in memory of Larry Maxcy be noted as for the Arboretum and be sent to the UCSC Foundation/Arboretum, 1156 High St., Santa Cruz, CA 95064 or through the website arboretum.ucsc.edu/donate.
