UCSC student dies after sustaining serious injuries

To: UCSC Community

From: Alison Galloway, Campus Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor

I am extremely sorry to have to share the news with you that the campus has learned that a UCSC student, who was discovered below the pedestrian bridge near the Student Health Center this morning, died at Valley Medical Center.

UCSC Police and UCSC Fire responded to this report at approximately 9 a.m. today. Having sustained serious injuries, the student was airlifted to the San Jose treatment facility shortly thereafter.

Our police, who are investigating the incident, report that there is no evidence of foul play.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's Office cannot release the name of the student until that office completes its work, including notification of next of kin.

As is always the case, students who are in need of support are advised to make contact with our Counseling and Psychological Services group. If needed, please take advantage of these very helpful resources.

Thank you.
