It is hard to believe that we have reached the mid-point of winter quarter, and we are well into 2013. Recognizing that students are currently in mid-terms, busy writing papers, working, and doing research, I want to encourage you to take a break this week and exercise self-care as we pause to celebrate Valentine's Day.
First, I want to remind all students that my office provides services and resources via our Care Program, to help support your inside and outside the classroom student experience. These resources include education about resources and services on campus, student emergency funds, and access to a full time social worker who can assist you in removing barriers that may be holding you back from being successful. For more information, please visit: http://deanofstudents.ucsc.edu/student-care/index.html
Second, you are all invited to join me and my student intern team this Thursday, February 14th for the first annual February Fest Carnival. This "mini-OPERS fall festival" will connect you with over 70 campus services and student organizations. Please stop by the Stevenson Event Center from 12:00 - 3:30 pm, and explore ways to get involved and services that are available to you. Sammy the Slug will be on hand for photographs, and the carnival will include free cotton-candy, spin art, face-painting, Valentine's cookies and more. Finally, I want to invite all students to join me on social media. Join me on Facebook at UCSC Dean of Students, and follow me on Twitter at UCSC_Dean
