Make a Resolution to Volunteer in 2013

To: UCSC Students

From: Student Services on behalf of the Student Volunteer Center

Hello Slugs. My name is Will Brotherson and I am the Program Director for the Student Volunteer Center. January is always an exciting time here at UC Santa Cruz. We students always seem to be ripe with energy and ready to kick off the new year and quarter. Unfortunately, many of our ambitions for the New Year get swept under the rug as the reality of school and classes sets in. This is why I want to encourage you to make a tangible New Year’s resolution: a resolution that will not only be easy to stick to, but will also help boost both your academic and professional career. Make it your New Year’s resolution to volunteer or intern this quarter!

Getting involved in the community through volunteer or intern work is not only a fun and rewarding experience that can boost your spirits, but it can help boost your career as well! Volunteer and internship opportunities are a great way to gain the real world experience most employers are looking for. Many organizations will look favorably on successful applicants who have previously volunteered with them, so why not apply for a full time position right after graduation?

Whether you’re looking for solid career experience or just for some fun and rewarding times, you should make 2013 the year you start getting involved. To get started, you can email us at volunteer@ucsc.edu and browse through our website: volunteer.ucsc.edu. Also, feel free to drop by our office anytime! We’re located at Hahn Student Services #245 in the Dean of Students Office. We have an open door policy and are always happy to help any students who come by. I hope you have an amazing year. Happy Volunteering! Also, don’t forget to follow us on twitter @UCSC_SVC
