The member of UCSC's custodial staff injured in an unprovoked attack on campus Friday is recovering well from her injuries.
She was released from Dominican Hospital Friday afternoon after treatment for a head injury suffered at about 11:45 a.m. when an unknown assailant struck her near the loading dock at the College Nine/Ten dining hall.
Despite an extensive search neither the assailant nor the weapon, described as a piece of metal pipe approximately 16 inches long, have been found, UCSC police said.
The employee has been encouraged to take the necessary time off to support her recovery. UCSC staff is continue to monitor how the larger group of custodial staff are doing and are prepared to offer support services if needed. Fellow staff members are concerned for their colleague and have provided outreach and support.
Police are continuing to investigate.
