The opportunity to buy campus-grown organic produce starts Tuesday, June 5, when spring fruits, vegetables and flowers go on sale at the UCSC Farm & Garden’s market cart. The market cart will be open on Tuesdays and Fridays from noon to 6 p.m. at the base of the UC Santa Cruz campus (corner of Bay and High streets).
Early-season offerings include organically grown strawberries, blueberries, and an array of tender lettuces and other greens. As the growing season progresses, shoppers can look forward to sweet corn, dry-farmed tomatoes, squashes, broccoli, potatoes, an array of sweet and hot peppers, apples, pears, basil, and much more.
Flower bouquets are also available weekly. All produce is grown at the UCSC Farm & Garden by staff and students in the Apprenticeship in Ecological Horticulture, a program of the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS).
If you’re interested in getting a weekly box of produce from the UCSC Farm, there are still shares left in the Farm’s Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, with the first pickup day on Tuesday, June 5. The CSA season runs through early November.
